igor-kurganov-barcelona-super-high-roller-winRussian poker pro Igor Kurganov has earned the biggest score of his career after winning the 2017 PSC Barcelona Super High Roller and €1,084,100 ($1,273,165).

The Super High Roller was definitely one of the highlights of the PokerStars Championship Barcelona extravaganza. This tournament featured a €50,000 buy-in and drew 86 players to the Casino Barcelona tables.

Many big names turned out with a €4,129,290 ($4,849,430) prize pool on the line. This included Dan Colman, Isaac Haxton, and Daniel Negreanu. All three players managed to cash, but they weren’t able to derail Kurganov on his way to the title.

How Kurganov Won the Final Table

Once on the 9-player final table, Kurganov began to shine. He built his chip stack by eliminating Negreanu (9th), Stanely Choi (8th), and Deitrich Fast (4th). He also knocked out Koray Aldemir in third after being dealt A-Q against Aldemir’s K-Q combo.

This set up a heads-up match between Negreanu and Poland’s Bartlomiej Machon. Both players agreed to a deal, whereby Machon collected $1,022,699.

The only thing left to decide was who’d win the tournament and Super High Roller trophy. This turned out to be Kurganov when his pocket queens bested Machon’s Q-J on the final hand.

Kurganov couldn’t have been happier about his 2017 PokerStars Championship €50k Super High Roller victory.

“It’s incredible! I’m so happy!,” he exclaimed. “It was relatively simple today. I won the first three, four hands in a row and immediately became the chip leader. I think I was leading all the way except for about 20 minutes.”

Kurganov now runs his career poker tournament winnings up to $14,089,225 with the PSC High Roller win. And this comes not long after he won the 2017 WSOP $10k No-limit Hold’em Tag Team Championship with his long-time girlfriend Liv Boeree.
