Aria’s Ivey Room Changed to Table 1

ivey-room-changed-room-1The Aria’s high stakes poker room has been named the Ivey Room since 2010. However, the Las Vegas casino has opted for a name change to “Table 1.”

Stan McCormack, Director of Poker Operations at the Aria, tweeted about the change. He credited Elayne Teitelbaum, the casino’s poker room host, for coming up with the name.

Why Is the Ivey Room Now Table 1?

The Aria came up with the Ivey Room concept in 2010. Their goal was to create a new standard for high-roller poker and one that would draw pros away from Bellagio’s “Bobby’s Room.”

The Ivey Room launched to much acclaim, with the Aria hosting an invitation-only $1 million freeroll. The freeroll winner got a chance to take on Ivey heads-up for $250,000.

While the room may have been named after Ivey, he rarely played in it. Instead, the 10-time WSOP champ has spent most of his time playing in Macau and other Asian casino destinations. It’s likely that his lack of participation convinced the Aria to rename their high stakes hub.

Ivey Room Never Drew Players from Bobby’s Room

The Aria’s plan to draw pros from Bobby’s Room’s “Big Game” never really materialized. While many pros do frequent the Aria, Bobby’s Room is still the main spot for Vegas high stakes play.

It’s unclear whether Ivey had an official contract with the Aria and/or did promotional work for them. If so, the contract would likely be severed by now with the renaming to Table 1.

Phil Ivey rarely makes public appearances relative to other world-famous pros. He also did little to promote the Aria after having a poker room named after him.

That said, it makes perfect sense that the Aria wants to start a new era of poker at their casino. Table 1 may not be as eye-catching as the Ivey Room, but it’s an interesting name nonetheless.
