Doug Polk has been retired from poker for over a year. However, he had kept his poker YouTube channel running up until now.
Polk has chosen to halt his leading poker YouTube channel now as well. The famed poker personality and retired pro bid his 288,000 subscribers farewell in a final video.
Polk Distancing Himself from Poker Ever Since 2019 WSOP
The defining point in Polk wanting to quit playing poker came during the 2019 WSOP Main Event. As described in his final video, he blew his chip stack quickly just to be done with the tournament, because he no longer loves the game.
Polk had a fantastic poker career that includes three WSOP gold bracelets and lots of online profits under the “WCGRider” handle.
He’s also amassed 288k YouTube subscribers since posting his first video on June 22, 2016. Only arc-rival Daniel Negreanu has more subscribers to a poker channel at 391,000.
Polk’s Upswing Poker channel features a mixture of news and hand discussions. He’s always presented his content in a comical style.
What Will Doug Polk Do Next?
As of now, Polk doesn’t have any concrete plans for the future. All he knows is that he doesn’t want much to do with poker any longer.
“I got to a point where I didn’t want to make poker videos anymore,” he explained. “But I kept doing it because I wanted to make something, and also because I had that dumb prop bet with Joey (Ingram) where I had to jump out of a plane if I didn’t make 80 videos.”
One thing that Polk is currently doing involves a mainstream YouTube channel that covers everything from politics to entertainment. With nearly 30,000 subscribers, he’s off to a good start on the new endeavor.
