However, if you are just starting out playing Hold’em poker then you have probably noticed that there are quite a lot of different types of limits. How does betting work in Limit Hold’em games and how can you choose which game is right for you and your bankroll? Read on to find out!

One of the most common types of Limit Hold’em is Fixed Limit Hold’em. In Fixed Limit Hold’em all bet sizes are, as the name suggests, fixed. For example, in a 5-10 game of Texas Hold’em players must place bets in increments of $5 during the first two rounds of the game and must place bets in increments of $10 during the last two rounds of the game. For as long as you play at a 5-10 table your betting habits will be fixed in this way. In Fixed Limit Hold’em three raises are allowed per round of betting. Fixed limits are good for players who want to be cautious with their bankroll and avoid jumping into a game with a surprisingly large pot. With fixed limit games you can estimate, more or less, how much money you will be spending in each game.

Another type of Limit Hold’em is Spread Limit Hold’em. This game is played by the same rules as Fixed Limit or any other Hold’em game. However, players may bet any amount between the minimum and maximum bet. For instance, in a 10-to-30 spread limit game players can bet any amount between $10 and $30 and are not fixed to betting only $10 or only $30.

Pot Limit Hold’em is another popular Limit Hold’em game. In Pot Limit games the maximum bet is equal to the current size of the pot. If there is $100 in the pot, for instance, then a player may bet up to $100. The size of the pot grows as the game progresses, and thus the maximum bet grows. In Pot Limit Hold’em there are also restrictions placed on minimum bets. For instance, in a 10-20 Pot Limit Hold’em game players must bet at least $10 in the first two rounds and at least $20 in the last two rounds.

The type of Limit Hold’em game you should choose really relies on your bankroll and how much you are willing to spend. When you are first starting out a fixed limit game can be a good idea. However, if you are really looking to win a lot of money playing poker then pot limit games are a good choice.

Betting in Limit Hold’em Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker game today.
