The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is a nonprofit Interest group in the United States that is made up of poker players and enthusiasts who lobby for the rights of poker players. With over 1 million members, including well-known professional poker players such as Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Annie Duke, the PPA is making huge steps forward in the fight against anti-gambling and anti-poker legislation.<\/p>\n
The Poker Players Alliance spent time lobbying against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), an act passed in 2006 that placed restrictions on online gambling and poker sites. While they were unsuccessful in their lobby against the UIGEA, the PPA continues to support bills to overturn this 2006 act. Currently the PPA is supporting the Skill Game Protection Act, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act and the Internet Gambling Study Act.<\/p>\n
The PPA has planned a number of events alongside online gambling websites. They sponsored a “Write Your Congressman Day” in a fight against the UIGEA in 2006. Additionally, they planned a “PPA Fly-In” where about 100 of their members flew in to Washington, DC to lobby Congress for the rights of poker players online and off. Through letters, meetings with congressmen and events the Poker Players Alliance works hard to fight for their online poker sites and poker players all around the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
