Ilari Sahamies taunts Dan Cates during Online Poker Session

Saturday, April 4th, 2015

ilari-sahamies-dan-catesIt seems that Ilari Sahamies is truly back, both in terms of his online poker winnings and his legendary trash talking. During a recent high stakes session involving Dan ‘Jungleman12′ Cates, Sahamies took the liberty of questioning Cates’ sexuality, then adding that he himself was drunk at the end. Here’s a quick look at the highlights of their chat log, with the full version appearing on TwoPlusTwo:

lari FIN: ike
Ilari FIN: u my man
w00ki3z.: sec illari
w00ki3z.: let me see if I can sort something
Ilari FIN: wookiez semi gay

(cont’d later) Ilari FIN: wookiez shut uop
Ilari FIN: u r gay
w00ki3z: **** illari

(cont’d later) w00ki3z: i have gf genius
Ilari FIN: u have none

(cont’d later) Ilari FIN: im totally drunk

Judging from the entire chat log, these two aren’t bitter enemies. But this type of chat was typical from Sahamies in his heyday, which lasted from 2009 to 2011. And it looks like “Ilari FIN” might be starting a new era of success, and along with that is coming the trash talking that he is so well known for. Regarding his online poker successes lately, Sahamies has made $895,547 in 2015 alone, and his HighStakesDB graph shows that he’s up around $1.5 million since December of last year.

The Finn was once one of the most-dominant high stakes PLO players, eventually reaching $7 million in lifetime profits on Full Tilt Poker. Unfortunately, he lost a great deal of this money in 2011 and stopped playing online poker for a while. But now he definitely looks to be back and is one of the toughest PLO players at PokerStars right now. And given that Ilari FIN is a headline-maker, I can only hope that his success continues throughout 2015 and beyond.

Ilari Sahamies dominating High Stakes Poker Again

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

Ilari Sahamies was the talk of the online poker world last year after collecting over $2.2 million in profits. The Finn dominated the competition at PokerStars, and earned the most money out of any online poker player in 2011.

Unfortunately for Sahamies, the good times came to a screeching halt in 2012 when he got off to a very rocky start. Perhaps the word “rocky” is an understatement because he lost a nightmarish $1 million over the first two months of this year. But in proving how much of a roller coaster ride the high stakes can be, Ilari Sahamies has already turned things around by winning almost all of his losses back.

Much of the winning has occurred over the past few days, where the Finn has accumulated nearly $500k in profits. This helps make up for the poor start he had to April, which cost him around $700k. A large portion of Sahamies great sessions have come at the PokerStars $50/$100 and $100/$200 PLO tables, while facing top-notch competition such as Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond, Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky and Ben “milkybarkid” Grundy.

So with yet another “up” to his up and down sessions lately, it’s nice to see Ilari Sahamies battling back again. But does his great play as of late mean that there’s any chance he could top the online poker world two years in a row?

It appears highly unlikely since another Finn by the name of Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen seems to be asserting himself atop the cyber poker world this time around. Things haven’t been so good for the 21-year-old lately, but he still has $1.25 million profits thus far, and the year isn’t even halfway over with. This being said, he’s definitely the favorite to top the online poker world in 2012.

The Year of Ilari Sahamies

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Towards the end of 2009, life was pretty sweet for high stakes online poker player Ilari Sahamies since he was in the midst of a massive upswing, and up $7 million in overall profits. Plus he was showing up on all of the poker TV shows, and many amateur players were trying to copy his swagger and trash talking.

Unfortunately for Sahamies, this was as good as things would get since his winnings came tumbling down in the following two months after the Finn lost over $3.5 million on Full Tilt Poker. And he continued a massive spiral that would see his winnings level-out around $830k before the FTP troubles began.

Interestingly enough, Sahamies seems back and better than ever in 2011. After being down over $800k on the PokerStars high stakes tables in July, Sahamies has gone on a big heater, which includes winning almost $2 million in the past three months. Currently, Sahamies’ PokerStars winnings sit at $1.4 million, and things don’t look to be slowing down any time soon for him. In the last week alone, “Ilari FIN” has pulled in $750k, and is the hottest player in poker.

With all of this being said, you have to wonder if 2011 is going to be the year of Ilari Sahamies. Assuming he keeps his current winning streak up, it’s a safe bet to say that he could be the biggest online poker winner if you don’t count the $2 million-plus that Gus Hansen has earned on Full Tilt Poker (the site is nearly defunct). Furthermore, Gavin Cochrane has tanked lately on PokerStars after being up almost $1.9 million, and now sits at $960k in overall winnings.

In any case, it will be fun to continue following Sahamies, and to see if he keeps up this torrid pace.
